Minister Hrnjić with US Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina on the state of forestry

The Federal Minister of Agriculture, Water Management and Forestry Kemal Hrnjić, together with his forestry associates, met with the representatives of the US Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina headed by Mark Handloff.

Minister Hrnjić presented the current state of forestry in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, pointing out the challenges due to long-term absence of the Forest Law at the level of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and stressing that aligning the views of interested parties in this area is one of the priorities of the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and this Ministry. Additional efforts are required to regulate this area by law in order to protect the forests and forest land as one of the most important natural resources of the Federation of BiH and improve the state of forestry, ensuring environmental protection and climate change adaptation, he added.

The adoption of the Law on Forests would also regulate the use of renewable energy sources which are subject of concession (wind and solar power plants, etc.).

Representatives of the US Embassy in BiH assured the Ministry of their support for the activities regarding the adoption of the Forest Law at the level of the Federation of BiH, as well as their readiness to provide support for the improvement of the situation in other areas within the competence of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Water Management and Forestry.
