Minister Hrnjić opened “The Herzegovina Fruits of the Mediterranean”

The Federal Minister of Agriculture, Water Management and Forestry Kemal Hrnjić opened today “The Herzegovina Fruits of the Mediterranean” focused on the promotion of fig, olive and pomegranate production.

The event organized by the Association “The Herzegovina Fruits of the Mediterranean” Stolac aims to initiate and increase the production of figs, olives, pomegranates and their products, and to promote, educate and popularize their cultivation.

The fair event organized since 2008 had more than hundred exhibitors who successfully presented their products. The fair also includes a technical workshop on “Agritourism – Challenges and Opportunities for the Town of Stolac”.

In his address, Minister Hrnjić emphasized that need to increase the cultivated area.

“The available data shows that the production of olives and figs has increased. From production of 837 tons of olives in 2021,  it increased to 1154 tons in 2022. When it comes to fig production, in 2021 production was 892 tons, while in 2022 it was 1076 tons. Out of the 2 million KM allocated for the production of grapes and olives in the previous year, producers from Herzegovina-Neretva Canton received 1.6 million KM, which shows that this canton is the top producer of these two crops,” said Minister Hrnjić during today’s address.

“The long-standing idea of continuing to encourage the cultivation of Mediterranean crops, which began in 1840, was realized in 2008 through the event ‘The Herzegovina Fruits of the Mediterranean’, with the support from the town of Stolac and the wider social and political community,” said Zoran Raič, president of “The Herzegovina Fruits of the Mediterranean” Association.

Minister Hrnjić also met with Mayor Stjepan Bošković to discuss agricultural production in the area of Stolac.

The Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Water Management and Forestry through the Model of other support types supports the organization of fairs and exhibitions of agricultural producers in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
