The JICA presents the ECO DRR Project to the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Water Management and Forestry
The Japanese International Cooperation and Development Agency (JICA) visited the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Water Management and Forestry to present a draft of the Capacity Building Project for Disaster Risk Reduction (Eco-DRR) through National Forest Fire Information System (NFFIS).
As forest fires pose a serious environmental and economic challenge for our region, the opportunities offered by JICA, especially in knowledge transfer, sharing of best practices and technologies in this important area, are of crucial importance.
JICA expressed their readiness to support the authorities in the Federation of BiH through training, technological transfer and capacity development in the prevention and management of forest fires. The project will include training for the representatives from eight countries who will visit Japan this year and acquire the necessary knowledge in a two-week training in order to ensure the smooth implementation of the project. The project activities will be coordinated by the Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina and will include the implementation of the NFFIS system that detects and monitors the hotspots, i.e. fire-prone areas.
The Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Water Management and Forestry follows up on its commitments to sustainable management of natural resources with JICA’s support on this Project.
