Minister Hrnjić at the Conference on “Challenges of Water Management in the Sava River Basin”

The Federal Minister of Agriculture, Water Management and Forestry Kemal Hrnjić spoke today at the conference on “Challenges of Water Management in the Sava River Basin Area”, organized by the Sava River Basin Agency. The conference was attended by representatives of institutions of different levels of government, as well as representatives of local communities from seven cantons under the Agency’s jurisdiction.

The conference focused on the challenges of integrated water management in the Sava River basin, while proposing solutions for better efficiency in the implementation of Agency’s projects.

In his address, Minister Hrnjić pointed out that Bosnia and Herzegovina was facing increasingly visible climate change impacts – floods, droughts and soil erosion, posing a serious challenge for water resources and the overall safety of the population.

“Our Ministry is working to strengthen the capacities of institutions, modernize legislation and create conditions for new investments in water infrastructure. Challenges are usually discussed during floods, but the most important thing is to act before disasters strike,” said Minister Hrnjić.

The Minister expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the Sava River Basin Agency, especially when it comes to including all stakeholders in open dialogue and joint planning, pointing out that only such communication can bring about good results.

“The Sava River, with its tributaries and large water area, represents one of our most valuable natural resources. It connects people, regions and countries – it reminds us that water knows no administrative borders,” said Minister Hrnjić, pointing out that responsible and sustainable water management is our joint duty.

In conclusion, Minister Hrnjić said that gatherings such as this one are of major importance for strengthening cooperation between institutions and all participants in the water management system, and for building a safer and more sustainable future for the entire Sava River Basin and the region as a whole.
