Minister Hrnjić at the ceremony on the completion of the project “Protection from Erosion of the Green Islands” in Bosanska Krupa
The Federal Minister of Agriculture, Water Management and Forestry Kemal Hrnjić attended today the ceremony on the occasion of the completion of the project “Protection from erosion of the Green Islands” funded by the Sava River Basin Agency.
The investment is aimed at preventing soil erosion, preserving river banks and improving environmental protection in the area of Bosanska Krupa.
Minister Hrnjić, accompanied by Mayor Armin Halitović, director of the Sava River Basin Agency Senad Memić and other dignitaries, visited the locations where project works were carried out. He was briefed on the results and effects of the measures taken to protect against erosion in the area of large and small river islands in the city center, the so-called “Green Islands”.
Minister Hrnjić pointed out the importance of cooperation between state institutions, agencies and local communities in the implementation of projects that contribute to the protection of natural resources and the improvement of the quality of life of people.
“This project shows how important it is that we work together, at all levels of government, to preserve the environment and the safety of our communities. Sustainable management of natural resources brings long-term benefits, and in this project we have seen that development and environmental protection can and must go hand in hand,” said Minister Hrnjić.
Special focus during the implementation of works was on preserving the natural environment and landscape of the Una River, and all activities were carried out in a way that does not disrupt the existing ecological balance or damage the natural beauty of the area. Aside from the protective and ecological aspects, this approach has enabled the project to have an additional developmental dimension, as it will contribute to improving the tourist offer and promoting Bosanska Krupa as an attractive destination for visitors who appreciate the combination of nature and sustainable development.
Technical solutions based on natural materials
The goal of this project was to protect the Green Islands from further erosion through an adequate technical solution, i.e. the use of natural materials. The project was funded by the Sava River Water Area Agency in the amount of approximately 443,318.18 KM.
The area of small river islands, eight river islands connected by wooden bridges, were seriously affected by erosion processes, and the river islands became endangered with a tendency to lose surface area, both useful and real. In addition to the erosion processes caused by the Una River, damage was also caused by beavers, which destroy the vegetation that prevented the degradation of the river banks.
The technical solution for the protection of the river islands, coordinated with the representatives of the city administration, is based on the use of natural materials such as wooden piles, planks and stone, bringing about functional protection while preserving the natural appearance.
