Contracting for special hunting areas
Federal Minister of Agriculture, Water Management and Forestry Kemal Hrnjić signed today on Igman the contracts with future users of special hunting areas in the territory of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In the forthcoming ten-year period, the contracts will allow users to manage the special hunting areas as established by the decision of the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“The game species stock was often reduced to a minimum, usually followed by a long and arduous road to recovery and improvement of the condition of game in the hunting areas of Bosnia and Herzegovina. With these contracts today, we hand over special hunting areas for management in the next ten-year period. I am convinced that the users will contribute to the conservation of the biological diversity of ecological systems and restoration of balance in the natural habitats of game through measures such as: game protection, game rearing and regulation of hunting areas,” said Minister Hrnjić after signing contracts with the future users.
The representatives of the forest enterprises informed Minister Hrnjić about the activities in the special hunting areas they had managed in the previous period, while the Minister of Economy of Sarajevo Canton Zlatko Mijatović, the Assistant Minister for Agriculture, Water Management, Forestry and Hunting of the Ministry of Economy of KS Kemal Starogorčić and the Director of KJP ” Sarajevo Forests” Samir Omerović presented the planned activities for planting 18,000 trees in the area of Igman.
As per the Decision of the FBiH Government, the users of special hunting areas are: KJP “Sarajevo šume” d.o.o. Sarajevo (Igman – Bjelašnica), ŠGD “Hercegbosanske šume” d.o.o. Kupres (Hrbljine-Kujača), ŠPD “Unsko-sanske šume” d.o.o. Bosanska Krupa (Plješevica), JP “Forests of Tuzla Canton” d.d. Kladanj (Konjuh) and JP “Hutovo Blato Nature Park” Karaotok-Čapljina (Hutovo Blato).
Recognizing the importance of special hunting areas and the demands of modern hunting management and, taking account of the international conventions and the individual specificities of each hunting area in terms of the surface structure, natural amenities and game species, in 2012 the Government of FBiH adopted the Decision on the establishment of special hunting areas in the Federation of BiH as follows: Igman-Bjelašnica, Hrbljine-Kujača, Plješevica, Konjuh and Hutovo Blato.
